Prep Softball Wins Region!
GMC defeated FPD 3-2 in what turned out to be quite a nail-biter. Junior pitcher Dixie Raley earned the win from the circle, striking out 9 batters and allowing just 2 hits. The Lady Vikings struck in the top of the 3rd inning with a lead-off double, followed by a walk, and 2 RBI triple. The Lady Dogs got on the board in the bottom of the 4th, ignited by sophomore Whitley Dunn’s lead-off double. In the same inning, after 2 walks and with 2 outs, junior Keely Murner’s bunt was overthrown to first, allowing Dunn and Watkins to score. The score remained tied 2-2 until the Lady Dogs put the pressure on in the bottom of the 7th. Keely Murner led off the inning with a long double, followed by singles by Sutton Long and Jessica Hayles. With bases loaded and no outs, Kaylie Harding hit a hard ground ball to third, scoring Murner on the bobbled catch at home. The Lady Dogs are now 22-3 on the season. Final Power Rankings will come out early next week to determine our seeding for 1st Round of State (2 of 3 series – October 23rd). Currently we are the #2 ranked team in Class A-Public.
