Lieutenant General William B. Caldwell IV Takes Office as President of Georgia Military College
Lieutenant General William B. Caldwell IV officially begins work at Georgia Military College today, becoming the 21st president in the school鈥檚 134-year history. 鈥淚鈥檓 privileged to have the opportunity to be able to serve with such talented faculty and staff, at a school with a true tradition of excellence,鈥� he said. 鈥淏eing in an organization that has a mission to make a difference in the lives of young people is extremely gratifying to me and I look forward to building on GMC鈥檚 commitment to character development and ethics.鈥� LtGen Caldwell, originally from Columbus, Georgia, says his first order of business will be to learn all he can about the school鈥檚 programs and services, then turn his attention to developing plans and priorities. He was selected by GMC鈥檚 board of trustees in February to succeed former president Major General Peter J. Boylan, who now holds the position of president emeritus. In July, LtGen Caldwell moved to Milledgeville with wife, Stephanie, and their three children, officially retiring from the U.S. Army on November 1 after 37 years of service. Most recently, the highly decorated officer was the commanding general of the United States Army North (Fifth Army) and senior U.S. Army commander of Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio. Prior to his assignment at Fort Sam Houston, LtGen Caldwell served for two years as the Commander of the NATO Training Mission in Afghanistan, and simultaneously as the Commander of Combined Security Transition Command in Afghanistan. 鈥淕eneral Caldwell brings a breadth and depth of experience that qualifies him uniquely for this position,鈥� said Randall A.
