High School Honors Night

Georgia Military College recently recognized its high school students for academic, JROTC, and community achievement, and honored them with a special ceremony. Below is a list of awards and scholarships, which were presented during Honors Night on May 16, 2013.

West Point Appointment Elliot Fairbrass University of North Georgia Army National Guard Scholarship Sarah Poole University of North Georgia Army ROTC Scholarship Kris Irvin Seth Lowery John Savage Active Minerals Scholarship Hanna Azimi Rick Colvin Georgia Mining Scholarship Marissa Langston Magnolia State Bank Scholarship Savannah Williams Distinguished Young Women Scholarship Maya Mapp Civilian Marksmanship Program Scholarship Marissa Langston Masonic Lodge Scholarship Tyler Pennington Meg Gray Military Officers Association of America Scholarship Elliot Fairbrass Kris Irvin Larry Allen Scholarship to GMC This $1,000 scholarship is awarded by the GMC Bulldog Club to a senior who plans to attend Georgia Military College after graduation, has excelled academically, and exhibited all-around good qualities. The recipient of this scholarship is Tori Spivey. Principal’s Scholarship to GMC Presented to a senior planning to attend GMC after graduation, this scholarship will pay one-half of the student’s fees after all other scholarships have been awarded. The recipient is Taylor Payne. Berry College Academic and Music Scholarship Awards In recognition of outstanding academic achievement and music performance, Austin Hamilton, has been awarded a Berry College Academic and Music Scholarship beginning Fall 2013. Rotary Club Scholarship This $1,000 scholarship is presented to a high achieving senior who is planning to attend Georgia College State University after graduation. The recipient of this scholarship is Hanna Azimi. The President’s Volunteer Service Award – presenter LTC Grant The President’s Volunteer Service Award was established in 2003 by the President of the United States to recognize the valuable contributions by volunteers. This award is based on the number of hours of service over a twelve month period or cumulative hours earned over the course of a lifetime. The following students were invited to a banquet in March at Georgia College & State University where they were recognized for their hours of service. For one hundred hours of service: Steven Bloodworth Hannah Brown Kailey Calhoun Elliot Fairbrass Delarrion Milner Hunter Newell Sinjon Sowell Haley Spires Vanna Ruth Stone Roy Wood For more than 200 hours of service: Marissa Langston For more than 300 hours of service: KeShawn Harris Bronte Joseph Youth Leadership Baldwin Class Ian Bailey Katie Bershadsky Kailey Calhoun Lily Edmonson Macie Lee Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Award This award is presented for outstanding ability and achievement. The cadet must be in the top 25% of the JROTC graduating class and demonstrate dependability, good character, adherence to military discipline, leadership ability, and fundamental understanding of the importance of JROTC. Kaleigh Donnelly Robert E. Lee UDC Essay Award Seth Lowery The Nancy Kennedy Reading Achievement Award Named in honor of long time GMC English teacher, Nancy Kennedy, this award is presented to the cadet in each grade who accumulates the highest total of AR points for their grade. This award’s recipients are: 9th Grade – Stephanie Gorham 10th Grade – Carrie Mzik 11th Grade – Ian Bailey 12th Grade – Adam Dudley
