Graduate with Tourette Syndrome says GMC-Sandersville was a “perfect fit”

52-year-old John Hughes is one step closer to becoming a health and wellness author once he graduates from Georgia Military College鈥檚 Sandersville campus. Hughes lives in Tennille, Georgia and will graduate with a 4.0 GPA on May 26 with an Associate of Science in General Studies. He鈥檚 a certified personal trainer, nutrition specialist, endurance specialist, and resistance specialist. His goal is to gain as much education as he can to prepare him to write a health and wellness book for people ages 40 and up.
鈥淚 figured I needed some college courses to go with all of my certifications and years of work in the health and wellness field,鈥� said Hughes. 鈥淲hen I write the book I want to have college accreditation.鈥�
Hughes has suffered from Tourette Syndrome and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) his entire life. He says attending the small class sizes at GMC鈥檚 Sandersville Campus was the perfect fit for his education and condition.
鈥淚t was the perfect fit,鈥� said Hughes. 鈥淚 have Tourette Syndrome and OCD and for what I have I don鈥檛 like to be around too many people because sometimes people don鈥檛 understand it. The Sandersville campus was perfect because it wasn鈥檛 overwhelmed with people. The classroom sizes, teachers and students were perfect for me. The atmosphere was just perfect!鈥�
Hughes is a 2016 recipient of GMC鈥檚 Frances Wood Wilson Scholarship. He plans to obtain his Bachelor鈥檚 Degree in General Studies and Health and Wellness.
