GMC Ranger Challenge Team Wins Top Military Junior College at Competition
Georgia Military College鈥檚 Ranger Challenge Team traveled to Fort Knox, KY over the weekend and competed in the 1st Brigade Spartan Ranger Challenge, where they took home Top Military Junior College. GMC鈥檚 Senior Reserve Officer Training Program (SROTC) team competed against 18 other schools from across the country. Of the 19 teams, eight were Military Junior Colleges, of which GMC took 1st place.
The GMC Ranger Challenge Team faced tough competition and were challenged in rigorous events. Over the course of the three-day event, the teams completed the following events: Land Navigation (day and night), 12-Ruck/Team Event (gaining 400 pounds of extra equipment along the route), M9 Pistol Shoot, Obstacle Course, Team Development Course, Call For Fire/Stress Event, Tactical Combat Casualty Care, Squad Assault Lane, Grenade Range/Stress Event, Stress Shoot with Assault Rifle Marksmanship, Army Combat Fitness Test. Each of the events challenged the Rangers to compete in what could be real-life situations they find themselves in while serving in the armed forces.
This win was a long time coming for GMC. They鈥檝e worked to rebuild the team since 2015, when they last won the competition, but came in dead last just two years ago. GMC Ranger Coaches, Captain Jared Smith and Sergeant First Class James Rousseau, say the GMC Ranger Challenge Team put in a lot of work ahead of this competition.
鈥淚t has been a true honor to coach these future leaders,鈥� the Coaches said. 鈥淏ut make no mistake about it, it is only through their hard work, selfless service, esprit de corps, and fortitude that this trophy is back home where it belongs. We鈥檙e so proud of the work they put in to get to Top Military Junior College. It鈥檚 a huge deal for them to place that high and we鈥檙e excited about the win, but we know there鈥檚 a lot of work to do to continue this kind of success and the team is ready for the challenge.鈥�
