GMC Prep School Volunteers With River of Life

Last week, more than 30 Georgia Military College Prep School cadets, faculty, and staff participated in River of Life Mission Advance, a four-day mission that provides help for people that physically and/or financially cannot do things for themselves regarding their home. From Wednesday, July 10 through Sunday, July 14, volunteers dedicated their time and service to helping those in the Milledgeville, Eatonton, Sparta, and Irwinton communities working outside of homes painting, lawn work, building wheelchair ramps, building library boxes, visiting shut-ins, and walking and washing dogs at Animal Rescue Foundation.
Approximately 350 people volunteered this year with teams consisting of adults and rising middle through high school students, as well as participants in church groups that come from all over the state. Around 200 volunteers stayed in GMC鈥檚 Baugh Barracks over the course of the mission. President of GMC, Lieutenant William B. Caldwell, IV, says it鈥檚 important that the institution help where needed.
鈥淩iver of Life is an important mission in our community and at GMC, we want to help in any way we can, so for the second year now, GMC has provided our barracks for housing,鈥� Caldwell said. 鈥淐ommunity involvement is very important to our institution and it鈥檚 so great to get some of our students, faculty, and staff out there helping those in need, not just in Milledgeville, but across Central Georgia.鈥�
GMC Prep School student, Carson Smith, says volunteering at River of Life has been humbling.
鈥淚鈥檝e done River of Life for the past few years and I really enjoy giving back to the community, it鈥檚 something I look forward to every summer,鈥� Smith said. 鈥淚t shows me how people can come together and do good in this world. Our work means a lot to the people we鈥檙e helping and it鈥檚 great to see that they appreciate it and that we were able to help them.鈥�
