GMC Prep cadets take part in JROTC camp at Fort Gordon
(Fort Gordon) 鈥 Nearly 30 Georgia Military College Prep cadets had the opportunity to demonstrate their military prowess and improve their leadership skills last week, taking part in the JROTC Cadet Leadership Course at Fort Gordon.
The week-long camp has been a staple in GMC Prep鈥檚 military program for more than a decade. Cadets identified as potential leaders in the high school battalion attend the camp 鈥渢o enhance [their] leadership skills,鈥 said Maj. Tom Hall, GMC Prep JROTC instructor.
鈥淲e have been taking cadets to the camp for more than 10 years,鈥 said Hall. 鈥淰irtually all of the kids said it is a positive experience, and they are all glad they went.鈥
The cadets participated in a host of exercises aimed at cultivating teamwork and togetherness.
鈥淭he cadets did rappelling, first aid, constructed a one rope bridge, learned water survival, did the obstacle course and leadership reaction course and performed land navigation,鈥 said Hall. 鈥淭he two biggest things were the importance of teamwork and the ability to think and react in stressful situations.鈥
