Georgia Military College welcomes new Deputy Commandant for Corps of Cadets
Colonel Steve Pitt is Georgia Military College鈥檚 (GMC) new Deputy Commandant for the Corps of Cadets. Pitt, who is from Washington, D.C., is responsible for recruiting and training cadets at GMC.
鈥淚 will be helping them navigate what it鈥檚 like to be a member of the Corps of Cadets,鈥� said COL Steve Pitt, GMC鈥檚 Deputy Commandant. 鈥淚 see myself as being a role model for them, to sit down and talk to them about some of their problems, and setting them up for success as they go out and choose their career.鈥�
COL Pitt graduated from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. , with a Bachelor鈥檚 Degree in Business Management. Pitt obtained several Master鈥檚 Degrees from various colleges and universities. He received his Master鈥檚 Degrees from Georgia College & State University in Public Administration, the U.S. Naval War College in National Security and Strategic Studies, and the Dwight D. Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy in National Security and Resource Management.
After 26 and a half years in the Army, COL Steve Pitt retired in 2015. Pitt is an experienced field artilleryman who spent time in Germany and witnessed the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. He also spent time in Fort Hood, TX. , Fort Sill, OK. , and Fort Bragg, NC. Pitt is returning to GMC, where he was an ROTC instructor in 1997-2000.
鈥淔or me it became about purpose,鈥� said Pitt. 鈥淚鈥檝e always loved my time at GMC when I was here back in the 鈥�90鈥檚. I would say every four or five years I would get on the internet and just pull up GMC and see what鈥檚 happening. For some reason one night it was just a calling. I call it divine intervention on why I鈥檓 back here. I鈥檝e always enjoyed setting young adults up for success.鈥�
COL Steve Pitt is married to his wife Sherri. They have two children Robert, 25, and Stephanie, 22.
